¡LORCA!
If I die, leave the balcony open.
The boy is eating oranges.
(From my balcony I hear him.)
The reaper scythes the wheat.
(From my balcony I feel it.)
If I die, leave the balcony open!
— Federico García Lorca
Living flamenco legend Carmen Linares, recent Premio Nacional de Danza winner Rafaela Carrasco, flamenco piano master Pablo Suárez, and Compañía Kaari & Roni Martin meet in the room of Spain’s national poet Federico García Lorca, outside whose walls the world is going crazy.
¡LORCA! features Linares’ interpretation and Roni Martin’s new arrangements of Lorca’s 1931 flamenco poems, which are deeply rooted in Andalusian Roma, Jewish, and Arab traditions. It took only five years from the recording of these poems to Lorca’s murder and the creation of Picasso’s Guernica.
